August 2010

Summer Camp…

The ranch is quiet this week.  Our Octaball court is empty, the horses are resting in the paddocks, and the pool is still…Summer Camp 2010 is over. What a great summer it was though! Our little western town came alive as over 850 kids attended one of our eight weeks of camp. We had a great time watching kids make new friends, soar on our new confidence course element- The Flying Squirrel, ride horses, and learn about having a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Thursday nights during camp weeks are our campfire nights and this means that everyone in camp gathers at our pond around a big bonfire and we sing songs and give the kids and staff opportunities to share what God did in their lives that week. It is always amazing the testimonies we hear about the work God does in just a week’s time. Sometimes it’s easy to doubt, easy to underestimate the power of our God, but those Thursday night testimonies reveal those doubts for what they are- lies. Our God is powerful and He is truly able to work miracles in the lives of all people. Thursday night is a great reward for the work we do here. Please pray for the kids who were here this summer, that the truths they heard would take root and change their lives.

This summer Donnie kept busy promoting the ranch at local events and fairs. He also maintained the website and oversaw the work of the camp videographer and photographer. Check out his work at www.mmrm.org/blog.

Tonya again got to work with the girl counselors and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and seeing God work in their lives as they ministered to the kids. She also was the Bunkhouse Inspector for the summer and got overloaded with candy and notes as she checked the kids’ cabins everyday to see who was the cleanest on the ranch.

The Apprentice Class of 2010…

On August 21st our Apprentices graduated and headed on to a new chapter in their lives. We had a great time with our boys this year- Joey, Tim, and Micah. It was great to see the growth and maturity all three gained over the year. We are excited to see how the Lord will use them in the time to come. Joey will head back to Texas to work with his Dad as well as continuing managing deer herds and leading hunts for a couple of ranches. Tim will go back to Ohio to be with his family. Micah will be going back to Canada to work as a combiner during the harvest.  Please keep them in your prayers, that they will take what they learned this year and keep applying it to their lives.

Our new Apprentices arrive September 10. As always, we wait with anticipation for what this new class will bring with them.

Changes at the Ranch…

Miracle Mt. Ranch is currently in a time of transition. On July 31st, Matt Cox officially became Executive Director of the ranch. He was formally our Program Director and Horse Program Director. With that change in leadership comes other changes as well. One of the biggest obstacles we face is the purchase of about 500 acres that we currently use from the ranch’s founding family. We are trusting that God will provide the finances we need. We are looking forward to this new season in the ranch’s ministry. We know that God is faithful and we take great confidence in the fact that this is His ministry to use as He sees fit.

Personal News…

Well, if you haven’t heard the news yet, we will be welcoming a baby in December, supposedly the 19th. We found out that we are having a boy and we couldn’t be more excited. We’re looking forward to setting up a nursery and all the other fun things that go with planning for a baby. Thankfully, Tonya has been blessed with a healthy, happy pregnancy so far!

In September, we hope to travel to Virginia to see family and friends and the Community Church of Chesapeake. In October, we’ll be headed out to Minnesota for the John Piper National Conference.

Donnie’s work for the fall will include more promotion events, continued work on the website, and various speaking engagements.  Tonya is still working for Matt Cox as administrative assistant. She also has the opportunity to teach a class for The Potters School, an online high school program. Tonya will also continue to work on her Master’s Degree online through the University of Edinboro.
